Warner gives Streetcar the digibook treatment

April sees the release by Warner of one of its cherished back catalog of titles, the Academy Award-winning 1951 classic “A Streetcar Named Desire”. The 1951 film dirtected by Elia Kazan stars Vivien Leigh as the disturbed Blanche DuBois and Marlon Brando as Stanley her brutish brother in law. Warner have been promoting the title as “stunningly restored and meticulously preserved.” This digibook edition celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the film’s first release” and is set to contain 40 pages of inside information about the movie. The package is due to see the light of day on April 10th 2012.

May release for Universal’s “Pillow Talk”

This Doris Day & Rock Hudson vehicle from 1958 is the latest in a number of special digibook releases being produced by Universal to celebrate their 100 years in film making. As with the other titles being released as digibooks, this is getting the full restoration treatment. The package is due for release on May 1st 2012.

The Oscar®-winning romantic comedy “Pillow Talk” recounts the story of what happens when snooty interior designer Jan Morrow (Day) has to share a telephone party line with laid back playboy Brad Allen (Hudson). They know nothing of each others existence until they happen to meet in person. Brad falls head over heels in love with Jan and resorts to impersonating a rich Texan in his attempts to charm her. The film includes timeless classic songs by Doris Day and marvellous performances from the supporting stars, Tony Randall and Thelma Ritter.

Speilberg’s Tintin Gets Mutiple European Releases

Aside from the special edition versions of Steven Spielberg’s CGI Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn that several countries are getting complete with figurine(s), there are also to be BD digibook versions of the movie in Spain, Italy and Germany. Release date for the Spanish version is 20th of March 2012. The Italian & German versions will probably arrive at around the same time.

The movie itself is based on The Adventures of Tintin, the comic books created by Belgian artist Georges Hergé Remi in the 1940′s. With big name director and producer, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson respectively, and written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, the storyline for this film is actually an amalgam of three Tintin stories: The Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham’s Treasure and The Crab with the Golden Claws.

Universal continues 100th Anniversary titles with Out of Africa

Universal continues to celebrate its 100th Anniversary with a new BD pressing of Out of Africa. March 6th sees the release of the film which is based on the autobiography of Karen Blixen, this movie stars Meryl Streep in the role of Blixen, who falls in love with big-game hunter (Robert Redford) in Africa just before the First World War.

Sydney Pollack’s film triumphed at the 1986 Academy Awards, it received eleven Oscar nominations and won seven – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Sound.

Warner´s next release of 2012 to be Camelot

Warner Home Entertainment will bring the 45th Anniversary Edition of Camelot to Blu-ray digibook on April 24th. Based on the novel “The Once & Future King” by T.H. White, the film depicts the apparent love triangle between King Arthur (Richard Harris), his queen Guinevere (Vanessa Redgrave), and Knight of the Round Table – Lancelot (Franco Nero). The musical, directed by Joshua Logan won Academy Awards for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Costume Design and Best Music Score, Adaptation or Treatment. Songs were supplied by the acclaimed Broadway lyricists and composers Lerner & Loewe.

Warner Home Video in the US has announced the 20th Anniversary release of Unforgiven. February 21st, 2012 will see it hit the shelves in the Blu-ray Digibook format.

Synopsis: The town of Big Whisky is full of normal people trying to lead quiet lives. Cowboys try to make a living. Sheriff ‘Little Bill’ tries to build a house and keep a heavy-handed order. The town whores just try to get by.Then a couple of cowboys cut up a whore. Unsatisfied with Bill’s justice, the prostitutes put a bounty on the cowboys.
